First of all, it may be worth mentioning that the approach to creating a foundation differs significantly depending on the type of building. For example, concrete is often used for arbours, sheds or greenhouses, which are not known for their strength. And sometimes, alternative materials such as brick or wood are used.
Since the foundations are the support of the building, which take on the entire load, it is necessary to use concrete with high strength characteristics.
Building foundations are divided into light and heavy ones, and those, in turn, into the following types:
- monolithic strip;
- columns,
- slab or block;
- pilings,
- screws.
Lightweight foundations are most often used for frame and wooden buildings. In this case,M150 concrete can be used.
Strip and monolithic foundations are often used in the construction of one and two storey houses and cottages. However, if the terrain is swampy or uneven, pile or screw foundations are used.
The grade should definitely not be below M200.
The grades M250and M300 are also actively used for this type of building. Their use is justified when it comes to buildings with a large area, as well as in monolithic construction. Buildings with foundations in M300 concrete may be up to 5 storeys high.
