Fine aggregate concrete is a concrete mix with a maximum aggregate size of10 mm. It is intended for structures with congested reinforcement or structures with the concrete cover of less than 20 mm, as larger aggregate used in ordinary heavyweight concrete mixes does not allow to achieve uniform distribution and the required compaction. If all technological requirements are met and the proportions are precisely adjusted, fine aggregate concrete will not be inferior in terms of performance characteristics to ordinary heavyweight concrete. The absence of large pieces of aggregate in the mix allows for a more dense and structurally homogeneous mass during hardening of the concrete. The concrete grade is designated by an alphanumeric code (for example, M-100),which denotes the ultimate compressive strength expressed in kilograms per square centimetre.
